Smart choice

The World Cup, as ever, threw up some brilliant new names of players who could well be stars of the world game in the near future.

There were the obvious players who impressed like James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado both of Colombia.

But truly one of the best players that we saw on show across the entire tournament was the American international DeAndre Yedlin.

He came on after 10 minutes against Belgium, due to injury to the first choice right back Johnson, and was absolutely unbelievable.

Many young players who have real athleticism tend to lack the technique to go with it.

But Yedlin proved that he not only had an incredible motor but also a really good delivery.

His technique is excellent and he gets up and down that right flank with the effortless ease of a top skater on ice.

soccersweep said at the time that he could turn out to be a major bargain for some Premier League club and Tottenham may end up being the grateful recipients of his talent.

The Daily Mail today reports that a deal is being discussed to bring the player to Tottenham:

DeAndre Yedlin close to Tottenham Hotspur switch in £2.75m deal for US World Cup star

And Skybet now have Tottenham as clear favourites to sign the player if he does move on this summer, at 2/5.

With Kyle Walker not yet showing the greatest consistency Spurs could really do with some more competition in that area and Yedlin could be the perfect addition.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Spurs fans: good enough?

As a big Spurs fan, I would be very excited if DeAndre Yedlin joined our great club. I was very impressed by this lads athleticism, ball control and awareness during the recent World Cup, the biggest footballing stage in the World and though at the time that he could become something special if he came to the EPL. I feel that Kyle Walker our current right back takes it for granted that he’s the automatic first choice at that position and has become very complacent giving the ball away in dangerous positions and frequently gets caught out of position. Yedlin will give him plenty to think and worry about that’s for sure. Mauricio Pochettino apparently has a very good record of developing young players and at 20 years of age, Yedlin would be in great hands if the rumours are to believed.

Kyle needs to up his game for sure. This signing would make that happen.

Ho’Ray’ spot on mate, Walker showed great promise after his loan spell with Villa, he broke into the 1st team and never looked back. Last season was his worst by far and as Ray has pointed out he’s far to comfortable, knowing that Spurs don’t have another RB to challenge him, the performance’s haven’t been good enough, the header back to Lloris against Chelski just about summed it up, poor concentration and decision making. With another quality young RB like Yedlin to put Walker under pressure it might just bring the best back out of him, and if it doesn’t then we will already have a replacement waiting in the wings. Finally ! someone who knows that walker isn’t good enough for us ! If he can’t do it, sell him off to the saints as a bargaining chip for either jay rodriguez or schneiderin. And i feel that he’s no longer young and he refuse to learn from his mistakes.

And don’t bother upgrading him to right wing as his attack and dribbling is non existence.
