Manchester United: Sign him up Louis – bargain of The World Cup bar none

Okay so you might think that it’s crazy to suggest Manchester United should sign a player based on one appearance.

But the more we think about it the more soccersweep believes that Manchester United will go with a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 formation next season.

Because, looking at the squad, Manchester United don’t currently have the sort of quality wingers needed to play a 4-4-2 – that’s for sure.

So either LvG invests £100m in new wingers or he uses what he’s got. And the system with three centre backs and two wing backs has worked brilliantly for Holland – so why not give it a bash at Manchester United?

The signing of Luke Shaw and reported bid for Juan Cuadrado would suggest that LvG is priming the team for the use of wing backs.

We think Rafael Da Silva will be a brilliant player for Manchester United next season in this sort of role and Antonio Valencia can also play at wing back quite comfortably.

But there is another player who is perfect for this role, who gave an unbelievable performance for The USA against Belgium on Tuesday, and might be worth a punt.

DeAndre Yedlin came on after 10 minutes for USA, for the injured right back Fabian Johnson, and had an absolute stormer.

At 20 years of age he is lightning fast and a wonderful athlete – he never stopped running and never looked tired – even after 120 minutes of gruelling heat in Brazil.

But he’s not just an excellent athlete. He’s also got great feet and a quality final ball from the wide areas. We can’t remember him wasting the ball once over the entire course of the game.

There is always a question mark over the technical side of American footballers. They have excellent facilities and turn out great pros but are still perhaps catching up in terms of technique.

But, James Rodriguez apart, it’s difficult to think of too many more explosive debut performances in Brazil 2014 than that of DeAndre Yedlin. This guy grabbed his opportunity with both hands.

Some European team is going to snap this kid up because he’s a really excellent player in the making. Manchester United would be getting themselves an absolute bargain for perhaps around £5m for the Seattle Sounders right back. That fee is just a guess but a European team will surely be making enquiries based on that sensational performance.

Top managers can spot a player over the course of a single game. We think that Yedlin has the lot and that several prominent managers might agree.

Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans: would you be prepared to take a punt on this guy?
