Spurs’ hopes of keeping Dele Alli have received a boost

Few will have expected Dele Alli to start in tonight’s dead rubber Champions League tie against APOEL Nicosia, but that’s the decision Mauricio Pochettino has made.

The 21-year-old has looked fatigued in the early stages of the season and is yet to produce his best form.

For many players of a similar age, a return of seven goals and four assists in all competitions would be very respectable at this stage of the campaign.

However, the former MK Dons man has set such incredibly high standards for himself that Spurs fans are probably justified in feeling a little disappointed.

There had been suggestions that uncertainty off the pitch was affecting him after he split from long-term agent Rob Segal in August.

The Daily Mail have now provided an update on his situation, and it should make promising reading for Daniel Levy.

Alli has decided not to appoint a full-time representative, instead entrusting adoptive brother Harry Hickford with his day-to-day affairs.

The Sports PR Company will deal with his public relations.

Spurs fans had feared he would link up with a super-agent like Mino Raiola or Jorge Mendes, which might well have been a precursor to him pursuing a big-money move elsewhere.

It’s now claimed the England star has no wish to leave north London in the near future.
