Huge revenue

Despite not getting into The Champions League last season Manchester United have still consolidated their position as one of the richest clubs in the world.

Their revenues for the last financial year have been released and Deloitte, the renowned professional services firm, have placed them third on the money table in terms of revenue for last season. The BBC created this table which shows a prominent presence for The Premier League clubs.

And despite a drop in revenue from last year the BBC says:

Deloitte said there was a “strong possibility” United would overtake the La Liga sides in next year’s edition.

The report predicts that with new sponsorships and Champions League involvement this season Manchester United are likely to top this particular league when the next results come out in 2017.

So what should they do with all that cash?

1. MARQUEE SIGNINGS

Despite the many arguable foibles of Louis van Gaal, we think that Manchester United have bought well over the last 18 months.

Angel di Maria was handled badly and Juan Mata (a Moyes signing) was massively overpriced. But the only outright failure has been Radamel Falcoa.

Players like Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo will more than prove their worth when they get fit and Memphis and Anthony Martial are the future of the club.

So United don’t need lots more players. They simply need top ones. Arsenal have done well over the last few seasons. They have added fairy dust with expensive captures like Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech.

Manchester United need to follow suit with A-list signings – one per window or even one per year would do. But they need to be top quality – Edinson Cavani anyone?

2. PAY OFF THE DEBT

If The Glazers had any real interest in football or Manchester United, they would surely use some of this record revenue to pay off the debts more aggressively. But don’t expect that to happen any time soon.
