Firstly, why oh why didn’t Manchester United buy Nathaniel Clyne in the summer?
Matteo Darmian is a decent player who will improve. But he has been in and out of the team while Clyne has been motoring up and down the line consistently well for Liverpool. Clyne’s also got that buccaneering style so suited to the great Manchester Uhited vintages.
Anyway. Someone smart once said that you should never look back.
So we won’t even look back to find out who said it.
But LvG did admit in his weekly press conference:
So we offer 5 super options for Manchester United.
Ricardo Rodriguez
At 23 the Swiss left-back is up and down that line like Scarface.
He’s a brilliant full-back who is as good going forward as he is in defence.
But he is the only left-sided player to make our list as we think that, with the likes of Rojo and Shaw on the way back, the right side is in much greater need.
Sebastian Jung
Another Wolfsburg player who is making waves in The Bundesliga. At 25 he’s forced his way into the Germany side and has just the right balance of defensive nous and attacking menace to thrive at Manchester United.
Lukas Piszczek
He’s no spring chicken at 30 and has been around since the incarnation of the Borussia team which bewitched European football from 2010. But he’s solid in defence and has lovely cross on him. Could give a couple of years of top service to United.
Seamus Coleman
It’s highly unlikely that his club will want to part with their indefatigable wide man in January. But The Toffees do have good options in defence so a massive Manchester United bid may force their hand.
Aymeric Laporte
Not a full-back but we have been banging on for years about Manchester United signing him. The inordinately talented young Frenchman could do a great job out wide or move into the middle and free up Blind for the left side.
Let’s see his best moments.
