Transfer Business?

A big news conference for Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal where he stated that he is indeed looking to sign players in the transfer window.

He made specific reference to the defence and, in truth, he has had terrible luck in that department since he has been at the club.

Luke Shaw looked like absolute mustard until the horrific injury against PSV in the autumn and he won’t be back for some time yet. Valencia, Rojo and now Ashley Young (who LvG confirmed needs surgery on his groin) are all out for protracted periods too.

The Manchester United boss spoke glowingly about the youngsters but admitted he wants to invest.

To give a high performance every week normally is very difficult for youngsters, which is why we have to look always in this transfer period for replacements. The difficulty is that we ask for a level and the clubs do not want to sell in this period and that is our problem. We are looking, but it is not so easy. Nobody can understand that because it is easy and it is not so.”

And he then got specific about his requirements:

I need full-backs and you have seen how I have used youngsters like Borthwick-Jackson and Varela who are doing great but the level of Manchester United is high.”

We really like Varela and also think that Paddy McNair is a top player in the making.

So, even though Louis is light at the back, we think he could take an awful lot of pressure off his available defenders by adding to his attack.

Real Madrid and Barcelona don’t always possess great defenders but they have such superb offences that it doesn’t really show.

So, instead of buying players who aren’t going to get a game when the likes of Shaw and Rojo return, why not have a splurge on the likes of Anderson and Edinson?
