4-2-3-1: Manchester United’s Best XI vs Southampton after LvG injury update?

Ashley Young needs surgery on his groin

Bad news

Louis van Gaal spoke to MUTV ahead of his press conference on Friday to confirm that Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ashley Young aren’t fit to face Southampton on Saturday at Old Trafford.

The German international is still recovering from a knock but Young’s injury sounds far worse. The excellent ManUtd.com stated:

…he (LvG) has already told MUTV that Ashley Young – who was injured at Anfield – has a severe groin problem and will need surgery before he can return to action.

And in other injury news:

The United boss also told the club’s official TV channel that Bastian Schweinsteiger and Phil Jones are still unavailable and will not face Southampton at Old Trafford tomorrow.

It seems then that there will be yet another shuffle at the back with so many full backs out.

We think that Varela is a really good player but Paddy McNair is solid and we would have him on the right with Darmian left.

On current form Basti is no great loss to Manchester United. We would like to see Carrick, and not Fellaini, partner Schneiderlin.

Up front we have to say that, while Jesse Lingard is a willing runner, it’s a crime that he’s playing ahead of Memphis. Lingard is not on the same attacking level as Depay and he missed an absolute sitter against Newcastle – and it’s not his first glaring miss of the season.

Memphis is poor defender so Louis should just leave him and Martial up top to do what they were bought for. Simples…..

So here is our Manchester United XI with Young and Schweinsteiger missing.

United fans: Let’s be having your elevens.

For me is a good line up, Macnair is a better player than Cameron who plays on the left full back and Darmian combines well with Martial on the left. Memphis has started playing well, he should be giving a starting place. l’m ok with the three guys in the middle of the pack, Carrick, Schneiderlin and Herrera.
