All roads lead to the big man?

After the grilling that Louis van Gaal has taken over the last few months it’s strange that all is so quiet on the transfer front right now. We are still finding it difficult to envisage Manchester United starting February without at least one top quality addition to an ailing team.

There is of course the normal rumour mill conjecture but nothing with any genuine substance right now.

But respected football journalist, Oliver Kay, reckons that something big could be about to happen in the market for Manchester United.

He took part in a web chat this afternoon and suggested that a new link is about to surface. During the web chat he is quoted as saying:

There is another serious transfer target that I’ve found out about in the past 24 hours, but I think I’ll wait to reveal that in the paper rather than a web chat.

He may of course have simply been trying to sell newspapers. It’s a cut-throat business after all.

But we hold the sporting section of The Times in very high esteem. Along with The Guardian, The BBC they tend to write with the least amount of sensationalism and the most substance and verity.

We still think that all roads are currently leading to PSG striker Edinson Cavani. Manchester United would be doing very well to sign him next summer. But to get him in January would be massive coup for the club.

With the player unsettled at PSG, this could be the perfect New Year gift for Manchester United.
