Over the summer we were adamant that Manchester United needed a winger as a priority.
For the last two campaigns they have been pedestrian out wide and LvG’s decision not to use Angel di Maria for much of last season was puzzling.
Because, despite the patchy form of the Argentine, he offered the sort of pace and penetration that Manchester United were sorely lacking.
Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay have come in but, while the former is more of a centre forward Memphis has also been overlooked of late.
So another wide man with genuine pace and guile would be an excellent addition right now and Louis has intimated over the weekend that this is his priority in term of signings:
“You have seen that now we play with Jesse Lingard and he is not the most speedy winger in the world and Mata is also not the most speedy winger in the world.
“So first we must first finish that problem and then we can see how we have to play and how we are in balance with playing with speedy wingers.”
And we can’t see too many feasible signings that could trump that of Lazio creator Felipe Anderson.
At 22 he made his debut for Brazil this year and has had a brilliant couple of seasons in Serie A.
His main position is on the left flank but he can also play at number 10 or on the right.
He’s got super feet and always manages to speed the game up with his pace, dribbling ability and running.
He’s scored 17 goals in 72 games for Lazio over the space of three years and already has 5 in 15 this season.
Anderson has been regularly linked to Manchester United and although it’s extremely hard to sign top players in January, he is perhaps the most gettable of the potential A-listers.
Make no mistake, this guy has the world at his feet and if Manchester United can get him they will immediately speed up their attacking play.
If Manchester United don’t move now, surely another giant will come in before long.
Let’s see the Brazilian genius in action.
