216 goals in 350 club games: Tottenham in for master marksman but is he the right fit? Report

Austin was sensational for QPR last season

Tottenham have precious little time to get transfers over the line for the opening weekend of the season.

But, while we shouldn’t expect any further new names on the team sheet for the United game, we’d be shocked if two or three new players didn’t come in before September.

One area of obvious concern is up top – if Harry Kane gets injured then Tottenham would have little cover if Spurs can successfully offload the underperforming Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado.

And the latest name to be linked to Spurs is Charlie Austin.

Over the last 24 hours some areas of the media have gone with the story.

The Mirror reckons:

216 goals in 350 games is a fantastic strike rate.

And he has proven himself in The Premier League with 18 in 36 for a seriously struggling QPR side last season.

But we just wonder whether he is the right fit for Tottenham right now.

Because we believe that Austin is a very similar player to Harry Kane – both are positionally intelligent, strong and usually make the keeper work by hitting the target virtually every time.

But wouldn’t Tottenham be better to complement their existing talent with a player of a different ilk? Someone with pace would be a better option for our money. It’s an increasingly important virtue in the modern Premier League and someone like Said Berahino could offer the Tottenham squad a bit more variety.

While we wouldn’t dismiss the idea of signing Austin, we think Tottenham could use their cash more wisely.

Let’s see the lad in action.

Journalism has become too much of a “COPY and PASTE” affair as this article reflects and it’s becoming too boring. Lazy and inept journalist all use the same source and what really is sad that source usually happ end to be “THE METRO”.. I mean it’s really sad.
