Ditch Young: Why Manchester United have to give their new star his chance against Tottenham

Pereira: Ready for first team action

Top player

Anyone who saw Manchester United’s pre-season tour would have struggled not to notice two things.

Firstly, Ashley Young was very average. Yes, he had a decent season last year and saw off the challenge of Manchester United’s record signing Angel di Maria.

Young is an excellent athlete and still managed to get up and down the wing with ease in America.

He also hit the corner form which Wayne Rooney scored the opener against Barcelona.

But, overall the quality wasn’t in his game.

Secondly, Manchester United’s young star Andreas Pereira gave an excellent showing.

He came on in place of Young against PSG and, although left wing is not his preferred position, he caused more problems in his time on the park than Ashley Young did.

We have always maintained that, even when Young is at his best, he’s only good against average sides.

When it comes to playing the big boys you need forwards who can make a difference. Young seldom has an impact against elite sides, so what’s the point of playing him at all?

We would much sooner try to get the far more talented Pereira settled in the side.

It’s going to be a steep learning curve for him but, at 19, he already looks to have the physical strength to hold his own in The Premier League.

He’s quick, has wonderful close control, is a lovely crosser of the ball and can beat a man.

He may take time to settle but, unlike Young, he can have a say in the biggest games for Manchester United. So why wait? The lad needs game time at the top level now and he’s a huge talent.

Louis van Gaal loves to bring youngsters through and Pereira did enough in pre-season get a chance against Tottenham.

Be bold Louis!

. Should get rid of both Young and Mata for last seasons they managed to score ten goals between them. When you consider that United is one of four biggest club in the world. When you look at Barca and their wingers Messi and Naimar , Reals Ronaldo and Bale, Bayern Robben and Ribery It
makes you wonder why Utd have stuck with Young so long.
Utd should try out Pereira, Lingard or Januzaj or if they want they could buy Pedro and Gaiton.
Pereira causeden more trouble to the PSG defence in ten minutes that. Young had done all game.
I would also like to say that VanGaal should play Smalling instead of Blind for both goals that PSG
scored Blind was 20 yards behind the play whenthe ball entered the net.
PsSG had a 6’2″ centre forward and played with two centre halves a long way off 6′. He should use his imagination

@Trevor i agree with most of what you have said about Young but mata manage 10 goals last season and not 10 between him and Young.when was the last time since Scholes united had a goal scoring midfielder? Why would united sell Nani and sign Gaitan? He is better than Nani 22 goals in 127 apps not starter for Argentina

Comment:I agree with you on young’s case.He has really given a lot to this Club but the truth remains that he isn’t good enough. It is time a player in the Mould of Pedro,Reus,Anderson(@least 2 of those) Lead our attack.I think Reus and Pedro should come in so mata sits on the bench.Rooney 9,Reus 8,Depay 11,Pedro 7,Schweini 4,Schneidi 10,Darmi 2,Shaw 3,Otamendi 5(Who I don’t know why Van Gaal has not acquired yet bcos he is the most vital signing) Rojo 6,GK(any body for now or get us Oblak(younger and goin to be better than DDG)and we have a Title challenging squad.Until then,we are just strengthening

Comment:I didn’t know i wasn’t the only one who thought Young was not good enough for a team with the ambitions of Manchester United. Even with the season said to be good he only managed 4goals and not more than 7 if not 6 assists. Its hightime LVG does a Welbeck on him. We could do alot better with our youngsters from the academy
