Man U

PICTURE: Manchester United’s strongest XI if and when Pedro arrives

Pace

The great thing about Pedro is that he can play pretty much anywhere across the front line.

So if and when he does sign for Manchester United, Louis van Gaal can simply look at the weakest area of his forward a line and pop the magician in there.

So where is that weak link?

Anyone who reads soccersweep will know that we don’t rate Ashley Young. He had a good season and is a great athlete.

But that’s not enough for the top level of football and Manchester United need to think about life after Young if they are seriously going to challenge for honours this season.

But it’s not straightforward because we also think that Juan Mata is a bit wasted out wide.

So here is what should happen.

Put Memphis out wide left.

He has been playing in the hole behind Rooney for Manchester United in pre-season and LvG seems intent to keep him there.

But, right now, Manchester United simply don’t have enough quality out wide and Memphis spent most of his time on the flank last season where his pace and power was vital.

We think that, with Pedro, Manchester United’s strongest XI would have Memphis wide left, Pedro wide right and Mata through the middle.

That way Manchester United can best use Depay’s pace, Mata’s shrewd creativity and Pedro gets to play in his most natural position on the right wing.

So here is how we would line Manchester United up with Pedro.

Manchester United fans: thoughts please

    Swap Carrick for Schneiderlin

More like Herrera – Schneiderlin in Midfield. Slow as molasses Carrick – Schweinsteiger can’t cover and are a bad combination as they would be exposed for their slow footedness potentially leaving large gaps in midfield.

Any team that features Phil Jones…Is not a contending team!!!

    I agree jmb53.
I would have schneiderlin/Herrera mid and Smalling with Rojo in centre of defence.
For interchange or the 60th minute injection, bring on januzai for Pedro and maybe Carrick or Sweinsteiger to spray passes about.

I love this information but I prefer Rojo and Chris at our defence line not Jones and the midfield should be Morgan and Carrick if Carrick is fit

I have been crying out loud that Depay is a wide man be it left or right he is better there. I found out that the middle Van Gaal is playing him is too tight for him, because the middle is always crowded with two or more players taking on one man. Unlike the flanks where you have to take on just one player first before you can see other players coming if you are fast enough you would have crossed the ball. If Pedro signs that will be good so as to have options in the event of injuries.

I feel we still need a top defender in central defence. Either Ramos or Otamendi should come on board. . I feel we are still vulnerable at the back. ..

We still need atleast two or three quality players inside the club.

How can u choose anyone in that defence over smalling, he is d only center back in man u now confortable in d ball. Jones panic alot, can’t score goals but smalling scored 4 goals last season, good record 4 a defender.

LVG, plz take into consideration that Herrera is that middle fielder manu has been crying out for since Paul Scholes. He as all the attributes on his side, in other words, u kno what u have, not what you’re going an get. Manu clicks when he’s in the middle

Replace Shaw with Blind, Jones with Rojo and Bastian with Herera and we will win against any team.

    Aug 3, 2015 at 8:46 am

One big mistake that van gaal will make is to overlook Herrera. He offers something special to that midfield compared to all other 3. He can combine with either one of them perfectly. He should not also play Blind in the CB.

    Aug 3, 2015 at 8:50 am

Dgea, Darmian, Blind, Smalling, Rojo, Carrick, Herrera, Pedro, Mata, Depay, Rooney.
