Gone?

It’s been a hectic summer of activity at Manchester United as Louis van Gaal continues to erase most traces of the squad which he started with a year ago.

So far Manchester United have offloaded 8 players this summer – Angelo Henriquez, Nani, Tom Cleverley, Ben Amos, Saidy Janko, Tom Thorpe, Callum Evans and Ryan McConnell.

And latest reports suggest that the 9th and 10th departures aren’t far away.

Rafael da Silva

The Guardian reports that Rafa is set to move to Galatasaray as Manchester United are close to confirming a deal for Italian international Matteo Darmian. They say:

Galatasaray are closing in on Rafael da Silva following Manchester United’s expected acquisition of the Torino right-back Matteo Darmian.

It’s a sad end to a career which promised so much. At 25 Da Silva has suffered persistent injuries which have stymied his progress. He was on £65k a week at Manchester United so he’s obviously seen as an expense that the club can do without. Antonio Valencia is expected to be the understudy for the right flank next season.

RvP

The Independent reports that RvP feels ‘betrayed’ by Louis van Gaal after one season under the Dutch boss, in which the striker wasn’t always first choice.

Robin van Persie has decided to leave Manchester United because he feels “betrayed” by manager Louis van Gaal, just a year after the pair guided the Netherlands to third place in the 2014 World Cup together.

But, with injury once more blighting his career over the last year, this seems like a good deal for everyone concerned. Manchester United will be relieving themselves of one of their highest earners and freeing up space for another signing. Harry Kane anyone?

Manchester United fans: is Louis doing the right thing to offload these two stars?
