Manchester United: Louis van Gaal talks about his striker shortage

Memphis will ruin defenders

Another new face?

Manchester United officially unveiled their latest talent on Friday and, in so doing, Louis van Gaal partially revealed his concerns about the front line of his squad.

When asked about the paucity of strikers at the club – Manchester United let Radamel Falcao go, are close to doing a deal for RvP, while Chicharito has a broken collarbone – he said that Memphis could be part of the solution:

“I have to see how we solve this problem and it is also one of the reasons that we have bought Memphis because maybe you remember that he has played in the striker’s position also in the Dutch team.

We have no doubt that Memphis can become a good striker. But perhaps, while still fairly raw, his pace would be better deployed in the wide areas where he can attack the spaces in front of him.

Nevertheless, he will be called on from time to time to play up top if Wazza is out for whatever reason.

But we still feel that Manchester United will be looking to sign one more centre forward this summer. They could go for a household name but we still think that a young player with great promise, like Alexandre Lacazette or Harry Kane would fit the bill perfectly.

With the latter unlikely to move this summer, Manchester United’s best bet may well be the Frenchman.

Let’s see Lacazette in action. Manchester United fans: would you rather see a superstar signing up top or would that simply rock the boat, with Wayne Rooney wanting a season at number 9.
