There is usually debate about the value of most potential signings. But few Tottenham fans were opposed to the club signing the brilliant Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid.
And after some last minute drama with Southampton screaming foul play, we wondered whether Tottenham were going to get this deal over the line at all.
But the latest pictures show that he is indeed now a Tottenham player.
Regular readers of soccersweep will know that we think Tottenham flipped the nuts with the signing of Mauricio Pochettino. And despite a low profile first season in charge we think that he’s going in the right direction. He’s streamlining the squad and dealing with the obvious problem areas which haven’t been properly addressed for too long.
The centre of defence was one aching issue. But Jan Vertonghen finally has a top partner to solidify the defence and we would be incredulous if Tottenham conceded anywhere near the 53 that they shipped in the last league campaign.
We fully expect another midfielder, striker and wide man to come in to Spurs this summer. But they now have a solid foundation on which to build at last.
Let’s see the Belgian star in action. Tottenham fans: perfect addition?
