‘He wants Spain’ – Are we now getting the truth about Sergio Ramos to Manchester United?

Lose lose situation

The latest in this debacle came from former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon who opined:

“I know Sergio has told the general manager to listen to offers they get from Manchester United,”

“He only wants to go to United.”

We don’t have any doubts that Manchester United want to sign Sergio Ramos. With so much publicity about a transfer the club would perhaps have publicly quashed the rumours by this point if they weren’t interested.

And there are obviously problems between him and his current club, in terms of his new contract.

But are we to really believe that Ramos wants to leave Real Madrid for Manchester United for the right reasons? Does he seek a new challenge with a club which looks on the up? To swap his homeland for the damp climes of Manchester United for the last few years of his career?

His mother has been quoted as responding to questions about where her son wants to play by saying:

“Of course. Real Madrid above all.”

“No. I think not, let’s go…He wants Spain.”

Ramos: Simply Not Worth The Money

Ramos: Simply Not Worth The Money

It’s possibly gone beyond the ‘threat’ stage. Ramos may end up at Manchester United. But he would arguably be doing so for no better reasons than to make more money and gain a measure of revenge against those who have sought to drag his name though the mud.

And would Manchester United fans really want him to join the club on those grounds?

We still believe that a new deal with Real Madrid is entirely possible. Lest we forget, Manchester United’s very own talisman, Wayne Rooney, looked as if he had well and truly burnt his bridges with the club a few years ago. But now he is captain of club and country and the fans adore him as much as ever.

We feel that Manchester United are still the pawns in this game. If they do manage an unlikely deal they will have paid a huge amount of money for a player who may feel privately bitter about the move and will be into his thirties before the season is out.

Wouldn’t it be better to sign a player like Nicolas Otamendi who, at 27, would undoubtedly view a move from Valencia to Manchester United as a big step up in his career and offer 4-5 years of top service?

We would take a centre back pairing of Otamendi and Rojo any day.

Manchester United fans: a bit of a farce?

Forget Ramos, he is a timewaster. Perez will cave in because he knows a Ramos transfer to United would signal a shift in power to the world and the senior players would riot.

The way Woodward is dragging his heels over Otamendi and Schneiderlin it wouldn’t surprise me if United ended up with neither….and lost out on Ramos and de Gea. He has previous form; remember the bids for Hazard, Baines, Hummels, Alcantra, Gundogan, Fabregas and Ronaldo and the foul up over Herrera…not to mention paying well over the odds for Di Maria, Mata, Shaw and Fellaini
