Manchester United: A great transfer move all round – report

Coleman: Strong Player

Good Deal

Manchester United surely need to add a right back this summer and many were surprised that a more serious effort wasn’t made to sign Nathaniel Clyne. With Manchester United’s interest seemingly waning before his move to Anfield, we can only assume that he didn’t tick all of the boxes for Louis van Gaal.

But another player who looks like a serious contender for the role is Everton’s highly athletic right back Seamus Coleman. Manchester United have had great luck with their Irish players down the years and Coleman looks like someone who fits the bill for Old Trafford.

Although he had a quieter last campaign, after eventually shaking off some niggling injuries, he’s been a titan down the right for The Toffees. He never stops moving and makes some brilliant runs down that flank for Everton – not least when Everton destroyed Manchester United at Goodison Park in April.

The Daily Star suggests that Everton and Manchester United could do a deal which suits all parties:

Man United look to swap Jonny Evans for Everton star Seamus Coleman

Of course Everton won’t want to lose a player of Coleman’s quality. But if the player decides that the lure of Manchester United is too great then Roberto Martinez could do far worse than to take Evans as part of the deal.

The 27 year old had a terrible season at Old Trafford – pockmarked by mistakes – but he’s still a classy and adaptable player who could fill in at centre back, or as a full back, and who is comfortable off both feet.

We could see this being beneficial for both Manchester United and Everton in the long run.
