The thought of trying to replace David de Gea is quite a sobering one for Manchester United fans. Because, although not on quite the same scale of disappointment, there is a similar feeling to when Cristiano Ronaldo left the club in 2009.
Manchester United might find someone good but they won’t find someone AS GOOD.
But find someone they will probably have to do and the latest name to be thrown into the hat is Uruguay keeper Fernando Muslera. A winner of the Copa America with Uruguay in 2011, the 28 year old has represented his country 66 times and has no little experience.
He currently plays for Galatasaray after a decent spell at Lazio between 2007-2011 and The Metro reckons:
Manchester United ‘ready to grab £15m (€20.5m) Fernando Muslera transfer’
FINAL WORD: We think that he’s a decent keeper but represents an obvious step down from De Gea. We would much sooner see one of the top keepers from The Premier League join the club this summer. Asmir Begovic would be a solid signing and wouldn’t let anyone down. And Hugo Lloris would be the other obvious choice but his club will be in no mood to sell and don’t have to.
Manchester United fans: if De Gea does leave, as seems inevitable, who would you like to see in between the sticks at Old Trafford next season?
