This story has been gathering pace since it was first suggested last week. Manchester United will most likely let Radamel Falcao go in the summer as it’s difficult to make an argument, at this point, for paying the required £43m for him.

And there is a growing sense that Robin van Persie will be off too. You can’t see him getting too much first team action at Manchester United next season as Wayne Rooney has cemented the number 9 spot in a 4-3-3 formation which only requires one centre forward. RvP has lost pace and certainly isn’t the player that United signed three years ago.

The Daily Mail reckons that a young Englishman will come in, in their place:

Louis van Gaal wants Danny Ings to form a central part of his Manchester United rebuilding this summer.

High-placed sources at Old Trafford have confirmed their interest in a player who is also being strongly pursued by fierce rivals Liverpool.

IF it’s a straight fight between the North West rivals for his signature then Manchester United will surely prevail if they are the only one of the two to get into The Champions League. More games means more chances to perform and, at 22, Ings will be excited to test himself at the top.

If both qualify then Ings will likely ask himself where his best chance of first team football lies. With Manchester United now seemingly set on that 4-3-3 Ings may have to play wide or as an understudy to Wayne Rooney. At Liverpool he may get more opportunity to start matches, particularly if Brendan Rodgers persists with a 3-5-2.

It’s a tough choice for the lad but a nice problem to have for a player whose stock has risen dramatically over the last year.

Let’s see him in full flight. Manchester United fans: can Ings have an important role at Old Trafford?
