Just under year ago, when Louis van Gaal took the reins at Manchester United, soccersweep suggested that the new boss should make move for Georgina Wijnaldum.

The young Holland star looked mustard in his cameo role at The World Cup and seemed perfect for the English Premier League. While may talented players suffer due to the highly physical nature of English football, this guy is easily robust enough to cope with the demands of playing for a team like Manchester United.

At 24, he also has jet heels, trickery and the maturity to make an impact in the EPL.

He’s been on fire since The World Cup with 15 goals and 5 assists in 36 games for PSV. And he’s clearly putting himself in the shop window this summer:

‘I am happy at PSV but I am a player with a lot of ambition,’ Wijnaldum said. ‘I want to play in a stronger league than the Eredivisie’.

‘With my quality I feel I can bring a lot to a team that I will join. I want to show it in the big leagues; England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France.

Of Louis van Gaal, who gave him his chance at The World Cup he said:

“Of course I would like to work with him again.

“He is a good trainer, and makes players better. I work really fine with him and he is a great man.

He goes on to mention Newcastle player Tim Krul and perhaps the North East would be a more likely move for him. Manchester United have been linked with his Holland team mate Memphis Depay and still have to decide what to do with Angel di Maria this summer.

But, if Newcastle could prise him away from PSV, they could be looking at an absolute gem of a player for next season – the sort of star who could get Newcastle fans off their seats in the same way that the enigmatic Hatem Ben Arfa did at his very best.

Let’s take a look at Wijnaldum in action. Could you see him at Newcastle or Manchester United?
