At 28 years of age, and having captained his club and country, he may well be seen as the perfect fit to add experience a youthful defence at Manchester United.
He can consider himself very unlucky not to have played more for Arsenal over the last couple of years but the form of Mertesacker and Koscielny over the last year has kept him out of the side.
At his age he will now want to spend more time on the pitch and Manchester United may well offer him the perfect opportunity.

Well, if he’s rubbish, then that makes him no worse than Smalling. If he can run around like a headless chicken needlessly diving into suicidal tackles then he is on a par with Jones and if he spends a lot of time injured he is comparable to Evans. All in all he cannot be any worse than we have got and, as a Belgian international, should actually be better than anything we’ve got.
