Manchester United have reportedly ‘joined the race’ for Benfica striker Rodrigo Moreno.
With dynamism up top, or a lack of, a symptom of United’s general malaise this season David Moyes may well look to add some firepower after he’s done patching up the midfield and defence this summer.
Even if Manchester United somehow win The Champions League this May you still sense that Moyes is going to undertake an absolute carve up of the playing staff. ‘Ye, ye and ye – get lost!’
Rumours of unrest continue to surround Chicharito and his future at Manchester United remains unclear. But the club would always look to have 4 top level strikers in the squad so, if the Mexican does leave, it could free up a berth.
The Daily Mail reported earlier that:
Liverpool interest in Rodrigo confirmed as Man United and Chelsea join £25m (30m Euro) race for Benfica hot shot
Benfica boss Jorge Jesus has admitted Liverpool’s interest in £25million-rated striker Rodrigo Moreno.
Although his actual quotes seem more vague:
Asked specifically about Liverpool’s interest in the striker, who has scored 10 goals in his last 16 appearances for Benfica, Jesus said: ‘It’s normal. Every Benfica player is in a big window.
‘The league is full of high quality players so it’s normal for other clubs to be interested.
‘Rodrigo is going through a good moment.’
So, while we can see Rodrigo being the sort of player who Brendan Rodgers would fancy, they won’t printing his name on Liverpool shirts just yet.
But he’s an exciting talent who knows where the goal is – 40 in 106 appearances for Benfica and the sort of quick feet and mobility that we have come to expect from Brazilian imports.
Let’s see some a dem goals innit. Manchester United fans – keen?
