Manchester United: The Good News

The Theatre Of Dreams

It will get better at United

The situation is dire for Manchester United. While the club stumbles over its own feet time and again the noisy neighbours mock with their banners and play football from the gods. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Manchester United size – a club of this size may suffer for a year or two but it’s physically too big to do a Leeds. Or even a Liverpool. Manchester United is too big and too financially powerful not to fight back. Like Bayern Munich in Germany. They are on the boil right now but, before last year, they spent over 10 years without a Champions League Final. They also surrendered their crown to Wolfsburg, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund. But they are pre-eminent again because of good management and, most importantly, the cash to buy the best – and, in so doing, weaken the rest.

Liverpol were unlucky because they their success and dominance ended just at the time when big money was coming into football. They didn’t have the huge financial wealth that TV money brought to get them out of trouble. Successful teams post Liverpool (mainly Manchester United) harnessed a completely new level of prize money and TV revenue and soon became a spot on the horizon for Liverpool.

Fortunately for Manchester United, while in debt, their wobble has happened at a time when they are extremely cash rich. Providing they get the right management going forward then they should have no problems returning to the top in the longer term.

David Moyes – A lot of fans of Manchester United get annoyed with what could be called ‘knee-jerk reactions to David Moyes’ time at Manchester United. While we don’t want to slate anyone unfairly we also hold the strong opinion that Moyes isn’t the man for the Manchester United job. The idea of it getting worse before it gets better is understandable to a point.

But, after 7 months in the job, there are no signs of improvement at all. The performance levels haven’t improved. The results have got worse. Furthermore the camp doesn’t seem at all happy.

The dream is that it all turns out fine for Manchester United. Moyes gets the team firing and they win everything. But the reality is there for everyone to see. The new man hasn’t improved any aspect of the club. Sooner or later he will get sacked. The longer United leave it the longer it will take to get back to the top.

Come the Board of Directors, grow some stones and make the tough decision. Anything other than victory on the weekend would be a disaster from which we may never recover. It has been said that we do not need to finish in the top four but this is pure rubbish. The funds generated will at least go to pay down some of the debts still hanging over our heads. Without that the Glazers will simply rape the new Nike deal instead of using the funds for player purchases. This now really is “squeaky bum” time guys. Without that top four finish we will not be able to command the world class players that we so desperately need to rebuild. I feel it is now or never for our beloved team. Bring in Guss Hiddink short term, he’s proved he can operate at the top level and has great respect in all circles of football.

The guy is tactically awful… should have been sacked instantly the moment he put Welbeck on for Jones against Stoke and moving Rooney in Midfield… explain that? I think he is playing Football Manager the night before and basing his tactics on total fantasy…

    Mark, grow up.
Losing the bulk of your team, dead or injured in a plane crash might be something a club will never recover from and at this time of the year might be something you remember. But recover it did and remembering and honouring those lost went on to become bigger and better.
Finishing outside the top 4 won’t be ideal but it won’t be a disaster either. As a fan I’m not happy with how we’re playing and where we are but football. like life, is cyclical and we have no God given right to be on top -we have to earn it. Our team minus Fergie simply isn’t good enough, something we all knew before he left,
Moyse doesn’t look too good at the moment but neither did SAF at this stage of his early United career. 2nd was followed by 11th then 13th before he got his 1st trophy.
Moyse has 12 months to turn it around, I hope he does but if he doesn’t he’ll be gone. In the meantime get behind the team and stop being so hysterical.

Well obviously not cos we can’t be real supporters if we don’t think moyes is the man! 12 moths?? Month and I would say why so he has more time to destroy the club the longer they wait the more damage can be done let him ship all our good players out and bring his shite in.. Great idea!

Chris, I’ve been supporting United for 20yrs…..I’ve also been studying behaviour or lack of it that makes clubs fire coaches. Its become a lot more competitive and cut throat given the massive commercial benifits that comes when a club is playing in the top flight. Coaches leave when they cannot do their job, their job is to take a brilliant team and make them better or take a below average team and make them believe they are better. Coaches earn the respect from players when their tactics and management skills come together and makes the difference on the day. Moyes has no idea how to win a game tactically or how to bring motivation and confidence in a team that needs that lift just to take them to the next level. The latter was present when we played Sunderland in the game for the Capital Cup. Just before the start of extra time, in between extra time and just before penalties Sunderland team and the coach was huddled together arm in arm. Man U was doodling around looking lost while Moyes was standing withj his arms folded…..a sign of irritation and frustration. Moyes has got nothing to give to lift Man U to being that club all other clubs fear….he does not even have the ability to motivate his team……he is not Man U material and bad for the future of Man U as a top flight club. Moyes has to go. He has broken too many of the wrong records and is causing Man U to spiral downwards and out of control…..Nobody is even prepared to take the lead as a player on the field. That shows the sign of a team that is starting to lose their way, and confidence / belief in their coach. I do hope we do not have to endure another season with Moyes, but at the same token I firmly believe that the longer we take to rid ourselves of him this season, the less time we will have to bring someone in that can show how tactical mastery and playing the right combo of players for the apponent you face is equally important as the players contribution on the pitch. As pessimistic as I may sound, I don’t believe we will qualify for CL league next season and believe we will be kicked out of CL this season in the same embarrasing way we have been kicked out of the EPL title, fa cup and capital one……something any defending champions should not be expected to find themselves in, less than 12 months into the new season.

Depression is an ilness when the sadness goes too far, the first day I found out DM is replacing SAF I became so sad as he has won nothing. Now the sadness gone too far and I’m depressed. Come on glazers sack DM and bring a world class proven manager! Like the won who destroyed Rangers and Celtic and beat Real Madrid in European cup final and brought us glory for the past 27 years! Come on Glazer sack DM for fans sake!

guys we need to think, look around, you have see how damage sacking can be to a team, just give Moyes his time and lets see if he cant deliver, look at what he did at everton ,building a team without money and now RM is enjoying managing.
I have watch united from the early2000’s so I know much about UTD.we have not get good buys For our midfield since Hargreaves so we must not blame Moyes, and those players stirring his sack should advice themselves cos it won’t do them any Good,Moyes is the man now,get behind your new man and it shall be well.Thank you all
