Manchester United: A response to Tom Cleverley
Amidst the current chaos at Manchester United Tom Cleverley has done an interview which centres on the abuse that he has been getting from the fans with regards his performances.
In a piece with The Daily Mirror the Manchester United midfielder appears to defend himself by saying that he would be appreciated more in Spain. Here, in no particular order, are some snippets:
“My job goes under the radar at times. I am not a player who’s going to beat three or four people and stick it in the top corner or go round tackling people like Roy Keane.
Don’t we know it! So what exactly do you do for the team?
“I would like the fans on my side and it hurts a little bit when you have grown up at the club and love the club every bit as much as the supporters.
The fans want to be on your side too mate. But it’s not enough to love Manchester United. You have to justify your place in the team. You haven’t done that. We can’t remember one Man of The Match performance from you in your years at senior level. Can you, the reader? Community Shields don’t count as they are mickey mouse fixtures. Perhaps the 8-2 against Arsenal. That’s one stand out game over 5 calendar years.
“I feel I’ve been made a scapegoat a little bit. A few people in the media certainly seem to have a perception of me not doing much in the team.
It’s nothing personal. People aren’t simply being cruel. But you don’t do enough for a Manchester United player. You go missing for entire matches and even David Moyes sees this now. Actions speak louder than words and much of the time Manchester United look as if they would be no worse off with ten as having you on the park.
“I watch Spanish football a lot,” Cleverley says. “If they pass the ball sideways but keep possession, the fans clap them.
All we can say to Mr.Cleverley is potter off to play in Spain then mate. Not sure you should bother knocking on the doors of Barcelona or Real Madrid though.
