With news today that Manchester United could well lose Angel di Maria to PSG a huge hole could be left, before long, in the creative areas of the squad.
Because, although Manchester United didn’t always find a place for the Argentine winger last season, we felt that it was only a matter of time before things clicked into place.
And, even though he spent large swathes of the season on the bench, he still managed four times as many assists as his successor Ashley Young.
Alas, the lad seems determined to move himself and his family out of the North West of England and Manchester United surely need to add more width to their side as a consequence.
We feel that the best, and most feasible signing to replace him is Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund.
He won’t be easy to sign, with Real Madrid also said to be interested.
But what Manchester United can offer is the same amount of money and a guaranteed place in the side.
This 26 year old would already be seen as one of the very best in world football if it wasn’t for the injury which deprived him of a World Cup place.
He’s quick, intelligent, can play in several positions across the front line and scores goals – lots of them.
Last summer we felt that Manchester United should have signed Alexis Sanchez. He instead went to Arsenal and became one of the players of the season.
Hopefully Manchester United won’t make the same mistake this summer. Because they desperately need more quality out wide and there are few better in world football than Reus.
