Barcelona could bid for Manchester United defender

Enrique would raise a few eyebrows if he signed Blind

Barcelona could launch a surprise £14million move for Manchester United defender Daley Blind.

Blind is set for the Old Trafford exit following Jose Mourinho’s arrival, as the Portuguese boss is reportedly looking to offload a number of players.

The Dutchman was a favourite of Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal, as the son of one of his assistants, Danny Blind.

Now that those ties have been severed, Blind could be set for a move to Barcelona, according to The Sun.

It’s clear what Blind is getting from the deal, but Barca boss Luis Enrique will certainly raise a few eyebrows if he goes ahead with it.

With Javier Mascherano and Thomas Vermaelen both ageing and looking increasingly slow, Barca do need another centre-back, but the truth is that Blind may not be of the quality they are looking for.

United’s defensive record this season has been respectable, but that is in large part because goalkeeper David de Gea has covered them.

At 26, Blind should be at his peak, so it might also be difficult to Enrique to improve him any further.

A move back to Ajax would perhaps see Blind earn more first-team action, while he would also be able to fulfil his Champions League aspiratons with his old club.
