Mourinho key to United securing superstar striker

WITH Jose Mourinho poised to be named as Manchester United’s new manager, the odds on Zlatan Ibrahimovic lining up for the Red Devils next season have shortened significantly.

The superstar striker has already confirmed he will leave Paris St Germain in the summer and, not surprisingly, there is huge interest from a number of clubs keen to secure his services, despite at 34, clearly being in the twilight of his incredible career.

But the imminent arrival of Mourinho at Old Trafford looks to have swung the pendulum in United’s favour.

The Telegraph reports: “Ibrahimovic will leave PSG as a free agent after failing to agree a new 12-month extension with the French champions and the Sweden striker – who is eager to play in the Premier League – has been enthused by the prospect of a reunion with Mourinho.

“In contrast to his relationship with Van Gaal, with whom he fell out at Ajax, Ibrahimovic has a close connection with Mourinho dating back to their time together at Inter Milan, when they won the Italian championship in 2009 before the player left for Barcelona.”

Mourinho is expected to be handed a huge war chest in a bid to take United back to the top of the English game – and to make them a real force in Europe again – and he has already been linked with a number of star signings.

However, according to the Telegraph, Ibrahimovic is top of that list and the Red Devils are prepared to pay the forward a staggering £300,000 a week.

Some may question the wisdom of signing a 34-year-old – and paying him astronomical wages – but such is Ibra’s appeal and marketability he’ll more than pay his way off the pitch.

And, having bagged 38 league goals for PSG in the recently-completed season, he’s also still got plenty to give on the field too.

United fans, would you like to see the club sign Ibrahimovic?
