Blanc fancied for Man United job

LAURENT BLANC has emerged as a shock late contender for the manager’s job at Manchester United – just when it appeared Jose Mourinho was on the verge of being officially announced.

There has been a recent wave of support within the Old Trafford boardroom for the Paris St Germain boss and former United centre-back, with the main issue surrounding Red Devils legend Ryan Giggs.

Sun Sport reports: “United fear Mourinho would bring all his own men in and jettison Giggs.

Blanc, however, would work with United’s most decorated player.

“The long term plan is still for Giggs to be the boss in the future and the club does not want to lose him now.

“It is not certain that Mourinho has lost out and he has a verbal agreement to take charge of the club in the summer.”

It must be a worrying development for Mourinho who has ignored approaches from elsewhere certain that he will succeed Louis van Gaal at the end of this season.

He was already aware of there being strong support for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino to take over.

Even if Mourinho does eventually land the United job, it would hardly be under ideal circumstances now, given all the speculation and supposed doubt from some of the hierarchy at Old Trafford.

If the Red Devils do still intend to appoint Mourinho, they must make it official as soon as possible and quash all other speculation otherwise they are very publicly questioning whether the former Chelsea boss is good enough and that is not a stable base to start from.

Should United appoint Mourinho?
