Tottenham have made a bid for the prolific Colombian international Jackson Martinez, according to Spanish Media outlet Marca.

They say:

Tottenham want Jackson Martinez, but has met with the refusal of Atletico.

The bid, reportedly for (€30m) £23m, represents something of a surprise move for a club which has invested most of its money on youth over the past year.

Tottenham clearly feel that they need some real experience to go with the fearlessness of youth and Martinez would be a very interesting addition.

He hasn’t done the business at Atletico since his summer move and head coach Diego Someone has been known to get rid of new signings quickly if they don’t perform.

But the goal record of the 29-year-old has been superb for most of his career.

He battered in 92 goals in 132 games for Porto from 2012-15 before his move to Spain. Prior to that he hit 35 in 69 for Mexican club Chiapas. And he has 39 caps and 10 goals for his country.

Some Tottenham fans may be concerned that he doesn’t travel so well, given his slow start in Spain.

But Tottenham would be a getting a powerful, quick and athletic player who looks very well-suited to The Premier League.

This bid has been rejected but we feel that Tottenham could really push on in their search for a top 4 finish with a signing like this.

Let’s see some of the player’s many goals.

Tottenham fans: worth a nibble?
