Manchester United fans continue to see their side slip into the realms of mediocrity under Louis van Gaal and, for those who think that the buck stops with the manager, The Times brings good news today. They say:
Louis van Gaal faces sack if Manchester United lose pace with top four
Louis van Gaal is facing the biggest game of his Manchester United tenure, away to Liverpool on Sunday, with the club’s hierarchy increasingly concerned about the prospect of being cut adrift in the race for Champions League qualification.
Some are concerned about the lack of continuity that may come from hiring and firing managers quickly.
But where is the continuity in the 1 win in 8 in the league that Louis has ‘masterminded’ in the over the last few months? It’s relegation form.
The Manchester United manager has always demanded high standards from others throughout his career and if he could look at his own performance from a neutral perspective he would surely agree that it’s been completely substandard.
Van Gaal has never really felt the pulse of The Premier League and he seems unwilling to adapt to its demands. Instead he has stuck with his own set of tactics which just haven’t worked.
There was something of a departure from that style against Newcastle. This brought a better performance but no win. LvG might use that as evidence that his original system works better.
But this just highlighted the frailty of the defence, which has been mooted as a weak point for over a year but not addressed by Van Gaal. He has simply masked the deficiencies at the back by playing two defensive midfielders.
Manchester United are 6th in The Premiere League. They have won 2 games in their last 11 in all competitions, scrambled and narrow wins against Swansea and Sheffield United at home, and this once great Manchester United team is arguably becoming a laughing-stock.
It’s well past the time when Ed Woodward should have pulled the trigger and even a convincing win against Liverpool – don’t expect that by the way – shouldn’t be enough to keep the Dutchman in a job.
