He isn’t the most popular man at Manchester United right now and Louis van Gaal has been blasted for his tactics, as well as some of his selections, as the performance levels have hovered somewhere between awful and laughable over the last couple of months.
Bt at least he will please the Manchester United faithful with his latest utterances in relation to potential January transfers.
While he stopped short of naming names or saying that a deal was anywhere near being concluded, he did at least admit that Manchester United are in the market. He said in his programme notes head of the shabby showing against Sheffield United:
“If I and the coaches feel that something can be done to improve the current squad then that is something we will look at if the opportunity does arise,”
Much of the transfer speculation this month has centred on 22 year old Lazio playmaker Felipe Anderson, who Manchester United made a 50m bid for in the summer.
But with Lazio sporting director stating that the club had also rejected bigger bids than United’s this one could get prohibitively expensive.
Manchester United are keen but they will surely have a limit to what they are prepared to spend for a player who, at 22, still has it all to prove.
Anderson made his debut for Brazil this year ad has scored 17 goals in 76 games for Lazio since he joined the club from Santos in 2013 for around 7.8m Euros.
