It’s great being right. Having slated virtually every Tottenham manager for the last decade (honourable pardon to Harry Redknapp) we felt that Mauricio Pochettino had the quality to take the club forward considerably.
What we didn’t foresee was how he would go about it, by signing and developing some superb youngsters from under the noses of other elite clubs.
And Tottenham’s brilliant French keeper, Hugo Lloris, has praised his boss for the way he has gone about his business since taking the reins at White Hart Lane. Speaking to Talksport he said:
‘(Pochettino) has a lot of responsibility. He tried to put us in the best condition and bring us to the next step and for that we work hard every day..’
But, in a comfortingly driven sentiment for Tottenham fans, he says that the club shouldn’t sit back and admire the good work so far. He says that more investment is needed, and perhaps more experience:
We feel we are a good team, a strong team, but it is not enough, we want to become a great team and for that we need to add some experience because we are still young.
Lloris has been a revelation for Tottenham in his 146 appearances and three and a half seasons at the club.
He has that rare ability, for a keeper, to not only offer great resistance but also entertain the crowd with his spectacular agility and shot-stopping. In the English league only David de Gea at Manchester United can compete in terms of watchability.
It’s a huge season for Tottenham, with the club breaking ground on their new stadium, which will sit right next to the old one.
And a Champions League spot, come May, would be the icing on the cake. With traditional powerhouses like Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United struggling, qualification for Europe’s top table looks eminently possible for Tottenham right now.
