It was never going to be easy to sign top players in the winter window and Manchester United may well end January empty-handed as they search for forwards who can share the burden with Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman man is a world-class talent but opponents are successfully blunting Manchester United by simply putting a few players on the youngster when The Reds have the ball.

But, in terms of gettable, pacy strikers, we have two words for you.

Saido Berahino.

Laugh it up. Choke on your coffee. Whatever you like. But we think that the England U21 international, who has hit 10 goals in 11 games for his country as well as 20 at club level last season, would be an excellent signing for United right now.

Manchester United are desperate to enliven a moribund and predictable attack which relies so heavily on Martial for pace and invention.

Berahino would offer United another genuinely quick and precise point of attack and, in so doing, open the floodgates for Martial.

The fact that The Guardian claims that Stoke are serious suitors for his signature may speak of his calibre and perceived dodgy temperament. But Mark Hughes has worked wonders at the club and knows a good striker when he sees one. Just look at Arnautovic – the Zlatan of The Premier League and another who could stroll into United’s attack right now.

At £20m or thereabouts, Berahino is pacy, hard-working, brave, athletic and has surprised us with his precision in front of goal.

He may or may not become a really top striker for Manchester United. But he’s definitely good enough to become a vital member of an elite, successful squad in the long-term. Even if he fails to reach that level, he can get United another 10 goals this season and be offloaded for almost much as he was signed for – he has age on his side at just 22.

Apart from Martial, LvG has made fairly obvious, high profile and conventional signings for United so far. We believe that he should be thinking outside the box a little more and considering Berahino.

Let’s see him in action.
