Gift Horse

Real Madrid’s former president, Ramon Calderon, is never short of an opinion and his latest will set tongues wagging again.

The latest rumours suggest that Rafa Benitez is about to be relieved of his duties at Real Madrid after just a few months in charge of the Spanish giant.

Real Madrid played out a 2-2 draw with Gary Neville’s Valencia on Monday evening and that may not be good enough to save the veteran from the sack.

With Jose Mourinho out of work he would be the obvious choice for the next Real Madrid boss. Despite his turbulent last spell at the club Calderon thinks that he would be the best option, if Rafa goes.

“Zidane was a great, great player but he’s been coaching for only two years. So perhaps it’s too much to give him the responsibility of Real Madrid.

“It’s his best option [to get Mourinho].

But he didn’t stop there and he suggested that Jose Mourinho could be holding out for the Manchester United job:

“I think for Mourinho it’s a difficult moment to decide, but I’m sure the president has offered it to him. Maybe Mourinho is waiting for Manchester United, it’s been his main aim.”

We can understood that Ed Woodward feels a certain amount of loyalty to Louis van Gaal having appointed the Dutchman 18 months ago.

But he has an obligation to do what’s best for Manchester United and tough decisions often have to be made in such a job.

If Manchester United and Woodward stare this gift horse in the mouth then they don’t really deserve much reward.

Mourinho - going, going, gone

Mourinho – going, going, gone

Mourinho is the perfect United boss and in the perfect moment to make Manchester United great again. It’s not going to happen under LvG and if United miss the boat on Mourinho they may find themselves in an even more fragile position come the summer, when the top coaches have moved to new clubs.

Many to most Manchester United fans are now highly frustrated by the indecision arguably being demonstrated by Ed Woodward and the future looks as muddied as the present at Old Trafford. A narrow win and uninspiring performance against Swansea hasn’t changed a thing.
