Blistering pace: A Manchester United XI with Mane and Anderson

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has spoken many times about the process that the club must go through to be successful again on the pitch.

But, after many tens of million spent and some horrific form of late, serious questions are being asked about the suitability of LvG to Manchester United.

Of those who still back the Dutchman many believe that the boss is building from the back. And now that the has shored up the defence it’s time to have some fun with the forward line.

It looks as if Louis will be allowed a stay of execution to implement those plans and he may well have a final punt at completing the jigsaw in January.

On the back pages Manchester United are being strongly linked with Felipe Anderson and Sadio Mane.

So how would they fit into the side and would they bring the requisite cutting edge to the team?

Anderson is a fleet-footed and pacy creator who loves to run at defences with the ball and has the sort of fearless style which used to be so common amongst Manchester United players. His main position at Lazio has been on the left wing but he can comfortably operate in the middle or on the right.

We are putting him through the middle to begin with to leave Anthony Martial on the left, where he is so productive.

Sadio Mane is a similarly adaptable player who can operate on the wing or behind the main striker.

With him flying down the right and Anderson and Martial feeding Rooney, we would surely see an immediate uplift in form and results should these two speedsters join the club.

So here is how United might line up (with everyone fit) if they made that excellent double signing. Manchester United fans: a team capable of challenging for the title?
