Louis van Gaal seems to have steadied himself after the recent raft of calls for him to leave Manchester United.
Clearly emboldened by the conversation that he has had with the similarly under pressure Ed Woodward, LvG has started speaking about the longer term of his team again.
And he says that his striking problems could be solved by delving into the transfer market. The Guardian quotes him as saying:
“It [a lack of goals] can be solved with money but also on the training pitch,”
“Scoring goals is a quality. We have that quality but at this moment there is a lack of confidence at the right time or we need to buy another striker. It is always like that.
Manchester United have endured 7 goalless draws this season and 6 at Old Trafford. Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney are top scorers at the club with 7 a piece. But the top scorers in the English league are now rubbing noses with the 20 goal mark.
LvG once again defended his decisions to offload the likes of RvP and Chicharito – but then again, an admission of guilt is unlikely to come from the cock sure Dutchman:
“We could have kept all the strikers but then there would have been a lot of strikers in the tribune [stands],”
“They are not happy then. They want to go away. It is the story of Hernández, for example. He wants to play. There are now players in my selection who want to play. They cannot play because I choose another player. It is always like that. But too many strikers of high quality for the same position is too much pressure.”
