No Mata, more pace: Manchester United’s Best XI vs PSV to take 3 crucial points with world-beater back?

Big game

This week’s headlines would be a lot different had Manchester United not snatched a last gasp victory against Watford at the weekend.

Bastian Schweinsteiger’s somewhat fortuitous injury time intervention spared Manchester United’s blushes in what was another performance which lacked the killer instinct.

In mitigation United were without their two best players in Martial and Rooney and both will be expected to start this must win game against PSV on Wednesday night.

With Manchester United just one point ahead of Wolfsburg and PSV in a tight group, anything other than a win will leave United with a horrible last match to qualify against Wolfsburg away.

So regardless of the big game against Leicester at the weekend – an unexpectedly top of the table clash – Louis van Gaal will surely put out his strongest available XI for this one and attempt to get the game won early, with a barrage of attacking play – and despite the criticism of LvGs style he does like to play attacking football.

Carrick, Valencia, Wilson, Shaw, Jones, Herrera and Fellaini will probably all miss this one, but as we said, Rooney and Martial will be back and Manchester United still have enough available quality to pick something resembling their strongest XI.

So here is how we think Manchester United can line up to blow the opposition away in a must win encounter.
