Manchester United have an altogether more competitive squad than they did at this time last year, with all departments rejuvenated.
But the job isn’t done yet and there remains a lack of fluidity and speed of play in the forward areas.
This may well improve with time but we fully expect Manchester United to buy another forward in the coming window, or the summer at the latest.
One player who has been strongly linked and would be eligible to play in The Champions League from January is Sadio Mane.
The Telegraph reports that his club have put a figure around his neck, should the likes of Manchester United fancy another nibble.
Man Utd transfer news: Sadio Mane would cost United double what they offered in the summer
United indicated a willingness to pay around £20 million for the forward, but his outstanding start to the season has seen Southampton’s valuation soar
Mane has been even more effective this season than last with 4 goals in 11 games and some superb performances for Southampton in fledgling campaign.
Mane offers pace, penetration and a real football brain to go with the natural attributes.
He would also fit the Manchester United template well as his versatility would allow him to play in several attacking positions.
And we all know how Louis van Gaal likes to tinker with the positions of his players.
Let’s see him in action.
Manchester United fans: a worthy winter investment at that price?
