Memphis sends message to the Manchester United fans after destruction of Brugge

Depay: Needs game time

Goal!

We remember seeing the Manchester United home debuts of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. And it may have taken Memphis a couple more games to make a real impact but the match against Brugge had a similar feeling to when those United greats entered the fray.

And, but for a horrible miss at the end of the best move of the night, Memphis would have had the match ball to take home with him too.

But this lad won’t have to wait too much longer for one, based on this form. Because this is more than just a flash in the pan.

Manchester United and Memphis will play much tougher opponents but there is already little doubt that the Dutch powerhouse is going to take Europe by storm.

Those two, brilliantly taken individual efforts on Tuesday, will give the 21 year old the confidence to believe that he can make the difference at the top level for Manchester United.

Now that he has found his preferred position on the left he looks as if he is going to cause opposition defenders nasty and persistent problems. This guy will spend his career toying with opponents like a cat pawing at a groggy and helpless mouse. He will ruin careers. He’s that good.

And, after the match, he had a (sponsor-fuelled) message for the fans:

Great feeling to slay my first giant with @ManUtd. Time for the next one @UnderArmour. ‪#‎SlayYourNextGiant‬

And his left sided team mate Luke Shaw had words of encouragement too:

“I think our relationship is starting to build up, we have played a couple of games together and I am starting to understand how he wants to play.

“It is great to be playing with him, he can beat a man and he likes the attacking support from me as well – which is something I like to do.”

And the lad himself told BT Sport after the game:

“It is really important we win the game. We created a lot of chances, I feel disappointed I could not finish the last two chances. We have to travel to Brugge and finish the job.

“I ended last season with a lot of goals, come to a big club and you have to do a good job again. It is a nice feeling to score two goals at Old Trafford.”

“I am little disappointed because I will think about that last chance.”

Manchester United fans: can Memphis be as good as Ronaldo?
