‘Ask Pedro’ says Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal as he fuels speculation of an imminent deal

Van Gaal: A man of character

Close?

There is still a little confusion as to exactly how certain Pedro is about leaving Barcelona for Manchester United – or any team for that matter.

Luis Enrique has stated many times that he wants the player to stay and clearly understands that the Spanish international wants more minutes in the first team in the coming campaign.

But the Barca boss has stopped short of giving Pedro any assurances over additional playing time. And with Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar up top, it would surely take a serious injury or a highly unlikely change to Barcelona’s 4-3-3 formation for Pedro to get what he wants.

“It is a contradiction. He wants to stay but he also wants to have more minutes. I will continue to play those that I think are best for each match. What I am looking forward to though is the end of the transfer window so that everything will then be clear.”

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is getting ever more suggestive about a transfer happening but, with the Di Maria and De Gea debacles taking place this summer, he seems more annoyed with the status quo than at any time during his tenure at the club.

“You have to ask Pedro, not me,” Van Gaal said. “My answer is that it’s a process between a club and a player, and we are there also. I don’t mention anything before he has signed. When he has signed I will come to you and say: ‘Hey, Pedro is here.’ That is not the case and we shall wait to see.”

And in response to further questions about The Dutchman’s interest in the Spaniard’s ability to add pace and creativity to the side:

“I hear, and Pedro is a player like that,” he said. “So write it.”

We can rule out the idea that this deal has anything to do with money.

Barcelona have been very clear that the buyout clause is 30m Euros and they won’t entertain a fee any lower.

And latest reports suggest that personal terms have already been agreed between Manchester United and the player’s representatives.

So we are indeed waiting on Pedro.

Does he want to join Manchester United and play every week?

Or will he find it too much of a wrench to leave the club where he has spent his entire career.

We think that he will be a Manchester United player by the time The Reds host Newcastle on Saturday week.
