Highly Annoying

What an annoying tale this turned out to be. This one isn’t yet over the line.

But some may argue that Sergio Ramos may have used the interest of Manchester United simply to get the desired level of pay increase and a new contract at Real Madrid.

Spanish media outlet AS says that a deal is close to being finalised for a new contact for the Manchester United target and that he will be paraded in front of Real Madrid fans at an event on Monday to celebrate his new contract.

It won’t be the first time that Manchester United and other clubs are used as leverage in an increasingly mercenary industry.

But we simply hope that Manchester United wise up to such antics rather than continually being made a mockery of.

United should have the following policy with regards any further transfer business.

Before they officially state their interest in any star they should insist that the player publicly declares his desire to leave his current employer.

That way he is putting his own neck on the line with the fans and showing his sincerity.

Because, as is, Ramos can now sign the contract and then tell the Real Madrid fans that he never wanted to leave the club and he always intended to stay.

Just wait for the ’emotional’ outpouring on Monday.

We are expecting sound bites about the club forever being in the heart of Ramos and how he never wanted to leave Madrid for one moment.

We could write the speech ourselves.

It’s ostensibly annoying, disrespectful and unsporting behaviour from footballers who are increasingly missing the point of the world wide importance of football and concerning themselves only with the size of their paycheque.
