But if Tottenham do sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as has been suggested in the media this week, the song that they sing for him will be of nominal importance.
Because this lad let’s his football do the singing – or talking.
Speaking to some pundits there is a suggestion that his technique sometimes let’s him down.
But, having seen him several times at close quarters, we at soccersweep have no such concerns.
This is a player who speeds the game up. He’s not a dawdler who likes to zigzag up the park.
Aubameyang is pacy, direct and powerful. He can do a job in several areas of the park.
If Harry Kane was injured he could certainly fill in up top. But we see him more as a modern forward who could be most effective as the wide man in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.
As we know, Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino likes to play the latter formation. He’s right footed but coaches often play these types on the left to cut in and hit the ball off their stronger foot.
In short, he can play through the middle or on either wing which makes him an exceedingly valuable asset.
So it’s simply a question of playing him where Tottenham are weakest.
We like Nacer Chadli but are hopeful that Erik Lamela will really come good this season.
