It’s obviously highly speculative to try to predict Manchester United’s starting line up against Tottenham with another 7 weeks before the transfer window ‘slams shut’.
Despite having spent £80m so far this summer Manchester United look nowhere near finished with their summer flurry of transfer activity.
With David de Gea and Angel di Maria potentially departing there may yet be even more cash in the coffers before long.
But the sense amongst many onlookers is that Manchester United will add a centre back and striker to the ranks. The goalkeeping situation is as clear as mud and the apparent demotion of Victor Valdes from the squad encourages further intrigue.
And the fact that Hugo Lloris broke his wrist recently adds yet more complexity.
We are going to avoid speculation there by leaving DDG in between the sticks for now. That would obviously be the best outcome as far as many Manchester United fans are concerned.
At the back we expect Manchester United to sign Sergio Ramos or Nicolas Otamendi.
We think that the latter represents better value for money and longevity. Darmian will take his place at right back and, although we would prefer to see the dynamism and pace of Shaw on the left, we think that Blind will get the nod to start with.
Manchester United’s often weak midfield all of a sudden abounds in quality and depth. We wonder how much game time the likes of Marouane Fellaini can now expect next season.
Up top we fully expected Wayne Rooney to be the main man next season but the recent speculation about Edinson Cavani has forced us to rethink. He did play for Uruguay on the left of a three against England at The World Cup and perhaps, if he does come in, he may play there. Either that or Manchester United will have to change to a 4-2-3-1.
And we rather like the idea of that formation as it would give Manchester United fantastic defensive strength and allow the full backs to bomb on.
So here is our eleven for the first game. United fans: is this a title winning side?
