In the same way that we should always judge a musician by his music, we should disregard any judgement about his private life and focus purely on Ryan Giggs the footballer, the assistant coach, and manager to be.
And in his most recent utterances he demonstrates as much class off the pitch as he used to on it. We feel that, before too long, Giggsy is going to be a top manager.
He has learned from two of the best in Sir Alex Ferguson and Louis van Gaal and seems as keen as ever to continue his career in football as a coach.
Speaking about his experiences under the new boss, Giggs said:
“It was nothing new in terms of the detail, the hunger, the professionalism, the experience,” Giggs told the Sunday Times.
“I’d seen the same with Sir Alex. But there were little innovations that you’re seeing for the first time as a coach, where you thought ‘that’s brilliant’. And just the overall experience. Especially the big games.”
Giggs and Van Gaal didn’t always look particularly happy with each other last season as tensions ran high. But the Welshman has clearly loved his time as assistant coach and sounds as hungry as ever to succeed, with new signings expected to freshen up his team this summer. And Giggs looks at the bigger picture in terms of bringing players to Manchester United:
“If there are players available who are winners, who are proven, then, yeah, let’s go and get them. And with any good team the spine is important. Midfield, striker, centre-backs, goalkeeper, I’m sure we’ll be looking to strengthen the spine all the way through.”
This simple, unflustered, classy and almost nonchalant way of dealing with things may hold him in good stead to become a manager. In fact, there is a strong sense that the lad is being groomed to fill the boots of Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, when the Dutchman retires. While some may think that it’s too big a first job to go into, we believe that, along with the likes of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, Giggsy could spearhead a great management team at Old Trafford from The Class of 92.
