Chelsea have reportedly shown their hand with regards the potential transfer of Raheem Sterling.
Manchester City appeared to be the only serious suitors for his signature but Sky Sports reports that Chelsea have now shown an interest. They say:
Sky Sports News HQ understands Chelsea are also interested in signing the 20-year-old but are not prepared to meet Liverpool’s £50m valuation of the player.
The report states that Chelsea are only prepared to go to £40m for a player who is still only 20 years of age.
While the lad is still raw and hasn’t shown his best form over the last year, it’s easy to imagine him fulfilling his vast potential under Jose Mourinho.
With the explosive Eden Hazard on one side and Sterling on the other Chelsea could have a devastating counter attacking side next season. In the 4-2-3-1 which Mourinho favours Hazard and Sterling could dovetail to great effect.
Sterling may have to learn to track back a little more than he is used to, but it would surely make for a bewitching front line at Stamford Bridge.
Though Manchester City may be prepared to outbid their rivals for the signature of the player, the fact that he grew up in London may yet go in Chelsea’s favour.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Blues fans: would this be the deal of the summer?
