We strongly believe that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is looking to strengthen his spine this summer. As ever, he has been linked with a raft of stars but a big deal is yet to materialise.
So Jose needs a new leader who can organise the troops and lead by example. There can’t be too many better options out there than Arda Turan. The Atletico Madrid player has been imperious for his club over the last couple of years and has drawn admiring glances form around the world of football.
And now his agent has dropped the bombshell that the player wants to leave Madrid.
The Independent reports:
“His intention is to leave Spain this summer,” Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut told Spanish sports newspaper AS.
Then it gets more interesting as the man states:
“His will is to leave and to play in the Premier League, that is the path he would like to take to continue his career.
But, from a Chelsea point of view, the most interesting part of the quote is surely this:
“We are currently in talks with three teams but I cannot reveal the names of the clubs.
“However, I can tell you that they are the best in England and in European football.”
You can read this one of two ways. Either the agent is waxing lyrical about a big club in order to further woo them, or he is actually talking statistically about ‘the best team in England’.
Based on current form that team is undoubtedly Chelsea. They won the league at a canter and look as if they will strengthen again significantly this summer.
Whats more we think that Turan is very much a Jose Mourinho style player. He’s got great technical ability and is a threat from set pieces. But, most importantly, he’s strong, aggressive, robust and won’t be bullied by anyone. The Premier League, with all it’s physicality, shouldn’t provide too much of a challenge for a player who bossed games in La Liga.
We get the sense that the agent was talking about Chelsea.
