This Ramos to Manchester United story smacks of desperation on the part of Louis van Gaal. He pays his scouting network fortunes to scour the globe for top talent and returns with the idea of signing a veteran for a king’s ransom.
LvG has endeared himself greatly to Manchester United fans but a man of this level of detail should also be aware that the club, and all it’s followers, cherish youth.
Nothing excites Manchester United fans more than the signing of a young player with great potential. Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, in different ways, made the club what it is today. And the signing of Memphis Depay was greeted with joy not only because of his talent but his age.
At 21 Depay can improve in front of our eyes on a weekly basis. How good will he become? Noone quite knows and therein lies the excitement of the deal.
But we all know how good Ramos is and he isn’t going to improve. More likely he will slowly wane until Manchester United have an expensive veteran on their hands. He’s a good player but not a good investment.
Reports suggest that Real Madrid would want £46.5m for the Spanish international.
For our money there is only one player in the world over 28 who is worth that money. Cristiano Ronaldo.
Now if LvG wonted to spend that kind of money on Ronnie then Manchester United fans would be overjoyed. A top quality attacker who has already proven himself beyond all doubt in The Premier League.
But the idea of spending that much of the coffers on Ramos is borderline disrespectful to Manchester United fans who pay so much to see their team each week.
Stones, Varane, Laporte, Otamendi – any of these lads would be great signings at half the price and be able to play on for a decade. But signing Ramos is simply not a long-term plan.
Manchester United fans: happy about the idea of signing Ramos

Ramos is using United for a bigger pay packet so let him stay, right about age as well but United fans would still love Ronaldo back, its not going to happen thougH no matter the cost. You you honestly believe RM are going to let him go, never.

“Smacks of desperation”!!!! What a joke of a comment!!! Sorry are you VG’s assistant or close friend?? You have zero clue if this story is complete bolox or if there is any ruth in it!!
Also there is about 1/2 years in the difference between Ramos and Otamendi and no doubt before last year you had never heard of the latter!!! Yet one has won everything there’s is to win and it “smacks of desperation”, pathetic.
Funny you picked 28 as well, when Ramos is 29, why was that!??? Was it maybe because the likes of Messi & Suarez are 27!!! Very convenient that you pick 28!!!
