Manchester United 1 – Liverpool 0?

Memphis Depay moved to Manchester United early doors and, although Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers stated that he wasn’t interested in signing the player, the Technical Director of the selling club claimed otherwise. Marcel Brands said:

“Liverpool contacted us and talked with the player. They were also one of the clubs interested but at the end Memphis had the final decision and he chose Manchester United.

Over the last couple of weeks the British media seemed increasingly sure that the brilliant young Brazilian, Roberto Firmino, was on his way to Manchester United.

But Liverpool seem to have come up on the stand side to eclipse their great rivals. The highly trusted Liverpool Echo reports today:

Liverpool FC are continuing to push to secure the signature of Brazilian Roberto Firmino – in a deal which could make him the Reds’ second most expensive player ever.

……the Reds are hopeful of securing a deal for somewhere between £25m to £30m.

Meanwhile the ever eager Daily Star has reported that a deal has already been agreed.

LIVERPOOL have agreed a five-year contract with Hoffenheim star Roberto Firmino, according to stunning reports in Brazil.

Stunning or not, there is an ever greater sense that Liverpool are closer than United to doing a deal. In the midst of an excellent Copa America, Firmino’s stock is higher than ever and Liverpool will be overjoyed if they do capture him.

Let’s see the lad in action. Liverpool fans: the pick of the trio?
