For our money, there has been way too much talk about Manchester United signing veterans this summer.
33 year old Petr Cech has been linked with a move to replace the potentially departing David de Gea.
And, according to reports today, Bastian Schweinsteiger (30) and Sergio Ramos (29) could occupy a lions share of Manchester United’s summer transfer kitty.
Good players all, but we just can’t imagine them forming the next great, lasting Manchester United vintage. So it’s refreshing to see that United are also looking at some young bucks.
Talksport reckons that Manchester United have made enquiries about the brilliant Belgian striker Christian Benteke. They say:
Exclusive – Manchester United make enquiry about Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke
The report claims that Benteke isn’t Manchester United’s number one priority and that the reported release clause of £32.5m has put them off, to a degree, but that they are monitoring the situation.
And why not? Benteke has the potential to become a world class talent. His progress has been stunted by injury but he’s back to his best now and hit 15 in 32 for the struggling Midlanders last season. In total he has been prolific for Villa, scoring 49 goals in just 99 games.
He’s strong as an ox but also has superb delicacy in his touch. He can hit a rocket from 35 yards or offer the deftest of flicks to a team mate.
We think that, overall, he would be avery exciting signing for the club.
Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans: can he make the grade at Old Trafford?
