Manchester United transfers: A monumental waste of money

What a waste

As ever, you won’t find us sitting on the fence with regards summer transfers, and these latest stories demand further scrutiny.

Because The BBC reports today that Manchester United are interested in bringing Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sergio Ramos to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.

One of the main reasons that we have championed Louis van Gaal, since he joined Manchester United, is that he appears to be planning for the longer term of the club. Last summer he bought players in their mid-twenties who could hopefully develop into part of the fabric of the club.

But what can we make of Manchester United’s scouting department if the best solutions that they can come up with this summer are two hugely expensive to pay, household names on the wane?

It really smacks of short-termism on the part of Van Gaal if he does press forward with these signings – to spend the company coffers for a couple of years of success before riding off into the sunset with little to no succession plan in place.

Ramos: Simply Not Worth The Money

Ramos: Simply Not Worth The Money

We could understand the purchase of Schweinsteiger who, at 30 years of age, has just one year left on his contract and may come to Manchester United for a small fee.

But reports have suggested that Real Madrid would want £46.5m for a 29 year old with 2 years left on his current deal. £46.5m for a defender in decline? It’s absolutely absurd.

We have never been huge fans of Ramos anyway. He’s a rash defender – who has more red cards than any other player in Real Madrid history – and too technically limited to play in the anchor man role.

Manchester United should be looking at players like Aymeric Laporte, Raphael Varane, Geoffrey Kondogbia, William Carvalho, Roberto Firmino, Harry Kane and Alexandre Lacazette – talented lads who have greatness ahead rather than behind them.

Got to agree always thought LVG would go for more youth players who can be moulded into a great team not players entering the swan song of their careers and want one last good payday. Really hope we don’t go for either of these two

Comment:these are really waste of money. Man U should sign Morgan Schneiderlin 25, Fabinho 21 of Monaco, Firmino 23 and concentrate on the pre-season tour. He should not be looking at short term success.

I think LvG is a fraud. He act like I do when I play FIFA 16 Career mode, or even worse than me!
